Everyday Outfit: UFO top

This week's everyday outfit includes a velvet top that I made recently.  It was actually a UFO (Unfinished Object) that has been in my stash since 2002! I cut this top out and for one reason or another never actually sewed it. Now I hate to admit this but I have gained a few pounds since I cut this top out. So I sewed it together with a smaller 1/4 inch seam allowance on the serger in order to make sure it still fit properly. I added a bit of lace at the neckline and sleeves also. It turned out beautifully!  In fact it worked so well for work that I think I will cut out more of these tops. It it a very good quality stretch black velvet with a scoop neck and a slight bell to the sleeves.

What I'm Wearing:

Stretch velvet UFO top
Sheer floral skirt-thrifted
Pink Skully Scarf-Ardenes
Shell bracelet- Art show

  1. I have the same scarf but in black and white. If I seen the pink one, I am sure I would of gotten that one! Nice top! I like that you call it a UFO :)

  2. Hi Mary,

    Great top!

Where did you get the pattern? I want one for myself.

  3. Thanks Euphoria! I started with a very basic tee shirt pattern. It might be discontinued now. It was Butterick 3124 by Sandra Betzina. I altered it by redrafting the neckline to a scoop from a v neck and making the sleeves have a small bell. I quite often Frankenstein several patterns together to get the look I want by taking a sleeve from one pattern and adding it to the bodice from another. I will do a post on how to draft gothic sleeves soon. Since it's something I make all the time. :)
