Homework Assignment: A Quilt in the Making

This month's homework assignment from The Curious Professor Z is all about unfinished craft or sewing projects. Or as I like to call them: UFOs. I have to admit I don't have a whole lot of UFOS which is unusual for a sewing enthusiast. The ones I do have are really really old. I have some unfinished velvet tops from about 10 years ago. But I still might finish them soon and sell them.

However I do have a few unfinished quilt tops. They started out life as baby quilt tops that I was going to sell. And I just never got around to putting the backs on them.

I pulled them out last week to have another look at them and decided the green and black one had potential to become a larger throw blanket size. I pulled together some some more fabrics from my stash and added more rows to the small quilt I had started.

Here is my progress so far. I still don't have a back on it. But I'm really liking the touch of green in the quilt!

Which also inspired me to start another quilt top featuring the Mr Chillingsworth Panel from Andover Fabrics. This one will be in black and white.

But the really interesting thing is that seeing the green in my living room has me thinking that I need to revamp and redecorate my home again! Ahh!...Oh what have I gotton myself into?!

Halloween at Home Part 2

Happy Halloween!

Here is part 2 of my Halloween at Home posts for The Curious Professor Z. I saved the best for last! The best part of Halloween day for me is carving the pumpkins and handing out candy to the little ones. I made sure to shop early and get some nice plump pumpkins this year. They are perfect for carving!

I basically wanted a Tim Burton style pumpkin this year. I drew out my design on the pumpkin with a sharpie.

And started carving!

I wired up some Grote strobing lights that my hubby had around the house.

The final step is to clean the sharpie off with some degreaser.

And here they are all lit up on the porch.

And here are some treats for after all the Trick or Treaters have gone to bed. Movies and Cupcakes are the perfect ending to the evening. And it wouldn't be Halloween without a screening of John Carpenter's Halloween!

Halloween At Home

Today I am joining the Curious Professor Z by completing the October homework assignment. The assignment is to show how you decorate and celebrate Halloween at home.

Every year it seems my Haloowen decorating gets bigger and bigger. And yet I still have plans to add more next year! I spent the day decorating and sorting through boxes of Halloween goodies. The only task left to do is carve the pumpkins. But I am saving that for Halloween day.

Here is the front door and walkway. I have added more lights this year.

Here is the foyer. The bats stay up all year. I added the skeleton to the bench and added a wreath to the mirror. The teddy bear belonged to my son when he was little. And the pumpkin costume was my son's first Halloween costume. He was adorable in it.

Here is the Living Room. The ceramic ghost belonged to my mother. I had a pumpkin that lit up from her also. But after all our moves over the years it has gone missing. I hope to collect some vintage Halloween in the future.

The ugly doll did belong to my son. (He has a huge collection of them) But I have claimed the bat as my own.

The addition to this table was the beanie babies that also used to belong to my son when he was little. He is almost 17 now.

And I made a Halloween tree out of some branches in a vase and some skull lights.

The dining room table and dresser have been dressed up as well.

And a little bit in the kitchen too.

And even the washroom gets a little festive touch.
