Everyday Outfit: 90s Style Updated

I'm sorry I haven't posted an everyday outfit in a long time now. I finished this dress a few weeks ago and I love it! It's the perfect dress for those early fall days when you want to wear boots and a sweater but it's still a little hot outside. When it gets cooler I can throw a shawl or jacket on over the top of the dress.

I don't normally wear florals but I do like this one. Maybe it's all the purple? I decided on a simple bell sleeved skater style for the dress because I thought it would be practical now and into the winter. I finished the outfit off with a big floppy hat, Docs, and a moon choker from Crypt of Curiosities

I call it a 90s grunge dress because it's similar to all those velvet dresses that were so popular back then. Plus the combo of floral and Docs just screams 90s Seattle style to me. I'll just be off now listening to Nirvana or Soundgarden then. You know where to find me. Lost in the 90s.

Happy Thanksgiving!

This past weekend was the Canadian Thanksgiving. It was a beautiful day, so I went for a long walk with my family in the park. My beagle, named Bella, wore her halloween costume and she was a huge hit with everyone in the park.

We walked through the park to a historical home called "The House of Heads" or the Bell O'Donnell house in Guelph, Ontario. The house is named for the many carved heads that are in stonework on the front of the house. It was built in 1858 by Mathew Bell, a master architect, carver, and mason. Supposedly Bell was a huge fan of Charles Dickens, so the heads might have been modeled after characters in the Dickens novels.

Right next door to the house of heads is the monument to John McCrae. The author of the well known war poem "In Flanders Fields".  The poem was written on May 3, 1915 during the First World War.

    In Flanders fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
             In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
             In Flanders fields.

After our walk, we returned home for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner at my house. I brought out the good dishes and linens for a change.

Everyday Outfit Too Much Velvet

So I am learning a few things taking pics of my daily outfits. The first thing is that I really need to add a little bit of colour! I do own a little bit of red and purple. I swear! The second thing is that I wear a lot of velvet! Maybe too much velvet? Is that really possible? To own too much velvet?  Hmmm...

Today I am wearing:

Crushed Velvet blazer by Rocket Dog
Distressed sweater (thrifted)
Crushed velvet tiered skirt
Cut out Docs
Dracula necklace

And here is a shot of my adorable Beagle. She was sitting in front of the door so I couldn't leave.
