Tarot Blog Hop 2017

Previous Blog - Master List - Next Blog

Happy Beltaine Everyone!

Welcome to my Blog! If you have found yourself here by way of the Tarot Blog Hop hosted by the lovely Arwen Lynch Poe then thank you for participating in the Beltaine Tarot Hop! Please check out the master list in order to find some new and amazing blogs to follow!

This year's Tarot Blog Hop topic is about other types of divination that you might use in conjunction with Tarot. Tarot is my preferred type of divination but I do like to mix Tarot and Oracle cards on a regular basis. For the past year at least I have also been pulling a daily oracle card as well as Tarot.

I keep a daily journal on Tarot just for my own reference. I pull three Tarot cards for Mind, Body, and Spirit. I then record what I pulled that day in the journal so I can see what sort of patterns appear over time. Doing this daily can give you a better overview of what's going on in your life. You start to see that you pull the same card often and after a while you'll see that certain cards will appear when major life events happen. Keeping track will help you to realize that certain cards will have personal messages specifically for you.

The Tarot journal I've used for the last few years was an ordinary 3-ring binder. Certainly effective, but really boring! I mean really... Who was ever going to see this binder other than myself? What does it matter? Well guess what! Here I am writing a blog post and considering a YT video about it as well. So I guess with that in mind, loads of people are going to see my boring little binder! Ha!

So I decided I needed to spruce things up a little by creating a new journal. I needed my new binder to be practical as well as cute. I decided practically speaking that a typical spiral notebook works the best. Even though ordinary spiral notebooks can be inexpensive and practical they tend to be a little boring again! So I came up with a solution to sprucing up my hum-drum little book without breaking the bank.

I made a cute little quilted cover for my spiral notebooks! This way I can just pop a new one when I have filled up a notebook. I used up some left over scraps from a Halloween quilt I made previously for the cover and some plain purple broadcloth on the inside. Cheep and cheerful!

For this post I am showing off a newer Tarot deck of mine The Everyday Witch Tarot by Deborah Blake, I absolutely love the witchy artwork in this deck. I think it's the same artist that did the Green Witch Tarot which is another favourite of mine. And I am also pulling an oracle card from The Vintage Wisdom Oracle Deck to mix things up a bit. These have been my go to decks right now!

I've pulled my three tarot cards for the day...

Mind-Death
Body-Five of Cups (R)
Spirit- The Fool (R)

And one Oracle card... Freedom

Which I would take to mean that I have some new opportunities coming right now and I shouldn't hesitate to make a change.

As for Beltaine this year, I am planning on setting up a nice altar tomorrow and doing my own thing since I missed both events I could have gone to locally. It just wasn't in the cards this year for me. So I missed both of them. I did however get out to the market this year with friends where I found a new cauldron for my collection!

I wasn't going for Mary Poppins honestly! But I think I achieved her look anyway.

I have a new Youtube show! All Things Energy

It's a new year and that means a brand new project! I have just recently started a brand new live Youtube show with some friends! The show is called All Things Energy and we go live every Monday evening at 7pm Eastern Time.

The show is basically an open philosophical discussion about various Metaphysical topics. So far we have discussed topics such as Universal Consciousness, Spiritual Psychology, Ghosts, Spirit Guides, Angels, Numerology, Tarot, Purifying Water, and Crystals.

Our goal is eventually to have people post questions live as were are talking but it can take a while to build up an audience! I would also like to make my own videos eventually so I can dive a little deeper into topics that really interest me like Tarot.

There are three of us on the show. Dana Jensen, John Wheeler, and I. Dana is an extremely talented Psychic Medium and Empath who enjoys talking about many topics. John is very scientific and does fascinating experiments with water, crystals, and pyramids as well as being intuitive. And then there's me, I am an Intuitive Empath and Tarot Reader and also the researcher in the group. We balance each other out perfectly!

I have always been into studying ancient mythology. But I find I'm trying to learn even more now! My favourite metaphysical topics are Tarot, Pendulums, Runes, Paganism, The Craft, Spirit Guides, Angels, Goddesses, and Spiritual Psychology. I think I could never get tired of talking about this stuff so it seems only natural to start a show on the topic!

You can find us weekly at Dana Jensen's Youtube channel from 7-9pm on Monday evenings. Please feel free to post some questions or comments for us. We will respond the following week.

Mad Tea Party: Tea and Tarot

Welcome to my Mad Mad Tea Party! This post is part of a fantastic blog party hosted by A Fanciful Twist. It's a traditional blog hop so please make sure to visit the home page on Fanciful Twist for the links to all the participating blogs!

Welcome to my home, please pull up a chair and have a seat at my Tarot table! I have a nice hot cup of tea ready and waiting for you!

Today we are using my newest deck, The Wild Unknown Tarot. It's a beautiful handmade deck that I found on the Internet. I love how the artwork really speaks to me. It's simple and powerful. It's full of hand drawn animals and rustic designs. I've laid out a few spreads below using the deck so you can see the artwork in action.

3 card spread:

7 of cups
Mother of wands (queen of wands)
Ace of swords

4 card spread:

The Magician
Strength
Judgement
The Hanged Man

And below you can see all of the major arcana laid out all at once.

And here is what the deck looks like in a Celtic Cross spread. It has become one of my favourite decks already. I've used it for several readings with clients already.

If you are interested in a tarot reading by me please check out my Etsy store. I've just added a 3 card ($10) and a Celtic Cross ($20) spread on Etsy.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes...I have a new name!

So you might be wondering who's blog this is by now. I'm sorry if I confused anyone with my name change but I felt like it was time for a huge change! My interests are shifting and I felt I needed a complete rebranding of my blog and business because of it. Sometimes you just just know when the time is right for a shift. The planets align and the path is suddenly clear to move forward. Change is good!

Although I loved the name Mourning Glory (named after my great great grandmother) it was only a part of my personality. I've been a tarot reader forever and lately I've been doing more tarot readings for people than I have been making dresses. I needed a new look for my business that wasn't solely based on dressmaking. I started by redesigning my business cards at first with a new logo which I love. But I quickly realized I needed to change more than just my business cards! It was time to hit the reset button.

The new name comes from an old song by Led Zeppelin. I've always loved this line...

Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.

Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.
Sometimes I grow so tired, but I know I've got one thing I got to do...

That song has always made me think of Seattle in the fall. The cold rain has moved in and fall and Halloween is on its way. I think of a beautiful moonlit trail through the woods lined with ancient evergreens and moss. The autumn moon shines through the trees to light the path towards true happiness. That song has always just made me feel hopeful and nostalgic. So this new name has significant meaning to me.

This blog will still be about alternative fashion as well as tarot. They are both a huge part of me. Who knows where all this is headed but it's really exciting for me to share my love of tarot reading with everyone!

Halloween Tarot Review

The Halloween Tarot Deck by Kipling West and Karin Lee is loosely based on the classic 78 card Rider-Waite Smith Deck. If you are familiar with Rider-Waite you will have no problem reading these cards easily. The Halloween Tarot is a feast for the eyes of any Halloween addict! A very cute little black cat leads us through the Fool's journey starting with the The Fool and appearing all the way through the entire 78 card deck.

The cards are extremely detailed and quirky. The major arcana include Vampyres, Frankenstein's Monster, The Mummy, and other typical Hallowen monsters. A few of my favourites are The Empress (Bride of Frankenstein), The Lovers (Dracula and Mina), and Temperance. Even The Tower gets a makeover as The Addams Family house!

The minor arcana are just as detailed. You will easily recognize the typical RWS images such as the six of cups or the three of pentacles. The major difference is that the Halloween Tarot has been stripped of cups, swords, wands, and pentacles and in their place you will find instead Ghosts, Bats, Imps, and Jack o' lanterns!

The cards are made from a good quality card stock and there is a little white booklet included with the deck. There is a larger companion book available by Karin Lee but I did not order it with the cards. This deck is getting hard to find but I was able to track down and order a set from The Book Depository online.

Here is a basic 9 card spread that I use regularly. It's a beautiful deck and well worth the money especially for a halloween fanatic like myself. I'm glad I ordered it.
