Halloween Haul

This time of year it's hard not to go crazy buying up every Halloween item that makes my little black heart happy.  The stores are filled with housewares, decorations, accessories, and fabric that I just can't get any other time of year. 

Here is some of the fun stuff I've collected this year...

Tights: All shapes and colours I could get my hands on that I didn't already own. This is the time to stock up!

Collectibles: 

A friend of mine owns a Horror DVD and collectible store. He was able to find this Beetle juice for me. I love him! He even talks. "Make my Millennium" 

 

More decor from the dollar store. As well as the wreath I made earlier. 

And some small but cute things from a gift store in Stratford, Ontario.  

And some Kreepsville items that I picked up at the Zombie Walk in Toronto.  I always buy a Zombie Walk shirt as well to support the event.

Toronto Zombie Walk 2014

Part of my annual Halloween tradition is attending the Toronto Zombie Walk every year. This year was no exception.  I went with a friend and we had a great time like always. The costumes were extraordinary. Thea Munster is the brains (and pretty face) behind the walk.  Every year she and her volunteers work very hard to organize a free zombie walk and Halloween parade in the city of Toronto.

It was another great zombie walk. I can't wait for next year!

Everyday Outfit: UFO top

This week's everyday outfit includes a velvet top that I made recently.  It was actually a UFO (Unfinished Object) that has been in my stash since 2002! I cut this top out and for one reason or another never actually sewed it. Now I hate to admit this but I have gained a few pounds since I cut this top out. So I sewed it together with a smaller 1/4 inch seam allowance on the serger in order to make sure it still fit properly. I added a bit of lace at the neckline and sleeves also. It turned out beautifully!  In fact it worked so well for work that I think I will cut out more of these tops. It it a very good quality stretch black velvet with a scoop neck and a slight bell to the sleeves.

Halloween Wreath

Here is a sneak peek at my Hallowen decorating so far this year. I will post more pictures of the house towards the end of the month though. I decided I needed a nice wreath on my big mirror in the entryway. I purchased everything I needed for this wreath from the dollar store for a grand total of $10.  The dollar store always has a fantastic selection this time of year. I really only stopped in for more black roses to put in a vase but I came home with bags and bags of goodies! 

Here is what I used to make this wreath:

-Wire wreath with a few black flowers on it

-black and purple roses

-black feather boa

-two rolls of ribbon (one skulls and one spiderwebs)

-bag of small plastic skulls

-1 roll of mechanics wire (borrowed from my husband)

First I wrapped the wire wreath with the feather boa and added the purple Flowers on top of it. 

Next, we drilled small holes into the plastic skulls and poked the wire through them in order to attach them to the wreath. 

Last, I wired some ribbon bows on and added a loop at the top in order to hang it over the star mirror. 

And here is the finished look. The wreath hangs just above Jack Skellington on the bench. A perfect entryway for Halloween!
